WELCOME TO OUR MATARIKI WEBSITE

Every term, we choose a subject to study. This term we chose Matariki.

Let us, Darcy, Vince and Nicole, show you what we have learnt.
You may be asking, “What is Matariki?” Well…

Matariki is the Maori New Year. The Maori New Year is when you see Matariki for the first time after it disappears in May. Matariki is also a cluster of stars in the star Constellation of Taurus. The ancient Maori used the constellation for fishing, planting and harvesting. About 1 hour before the sun comes up, look to the north-eastern horizon, follow Orion’s belt down through the triangle of stars that make part of Taurus and you will see Matariki as a bright cluster of stars.
